Learning Difficulties/ mental health units

We currently operate five units; three in Hatherleigh, one at South Zeal and another in Okehampton where our aim is to support those people with learning difficulties who are "differently able".  The central location of our units enables the residents to integrate into the community and our training and life skills programme encourages them to lead a full and active life.

The community of Hatherleigh will have their very own space to grow cook and eat their own food thanks to a £197,500 grant from Local Food, a £57.5 million funding programme supported by the Big Lottery Fund.

Made-Well, a not for profit Community Interest Company, is based at West Fishleigh Farm, Hatherleigh. The whole initiative will bring leisure and learning opportunities, life skills, training, jobs and volunteering opportunities to local, 'differently able' and marginalised people.

The 3.5 acre site will have horticulture (growing vegetables, herbs and fruit), farm and petting animals, dedicated training and cooking facilities, a shop and a cafe to promote a better understanding and appreciation of food, healthy lifestyles, and to give local people access to affordable home-grown food.

The project is open to participants Monday-Friday and will offer different levels of interaction under 'Enjoy, Experience and Education' themes.  For more information visit www.made-well.co.uk

Our Social care staff are looking at embedding employment in the person-centred support plans of working age adults, including bringing together funding streams for supported employment. We will work with you if this is your aim. Primary Care Trusts are looking to ensure that employment is incentivised as part of the bidding and evaluation process for appropriate contracts relating to supporting adults of working age. Local Schools, colleges and other learning providers are now being encouraged to provide open, supported work experience for all people with learning disabilities.
